B.SC. in Agriculture at the school of agriculture consists of a curriculum that is very broad and interdisciplinary consisting of courses in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agricultural Economics, Extension education, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil Science, Food Technology, Animal Husbandry apart from supporting courses in Basic Sciences, Humanities and Agricultural Engineering. B.Sc.(Ag.) holders are given some benefits as they receive higher stipend than B.Sc. holders in DBT supported post graduate courses in Biotechnology. Even for the Gazetted post like Agricultural Officer (Agronomist), the Basic educational requirement is B.Sc in Agriculture.
The target of School of Agriculture is to focus on areas where students can enhance their abilities to deal with the challenges in the field. Our main focus is on:
Once a student graduates from the School of Agriculture a lot of Government as well as Private job opportunities are available for them. As for Government jobs, State Agriculture Departments recruits Graduates to fill up Officer level posts. Government Banks also recruits Graduates to fill up Officer level posts (generally dealing with Loans). If the student opts for Private Sector jobs, they may find jobs as Managers at Plantations, as Officers at Fertilizer Manufacturing firms, Agriculture Machinery Industries, Agricultural Products Marketing firms, Food processing units etc. Average starting salary is generally between 2-4.5 Lakh Rupees per year.
Candidates must have scored 50% (for SC/ST/OBC 45%) marks in aggregate in 12th Standard or an equivalent examination in the stream of PCM/PCB/PCMB/ Agriculture (P- Physics, C- Chemistry, M- Mathematics, B- biology), recognized by State or Central Education Board.
